AIM:- Study the reaction of acid with metal.
APPARATUS:- Test tube, Delivery
tube, China dish, Candle, Soap solution, Acid, Zinc granule.
PROCEDURE:-
- Take about 5ml of direct sulphuric acid in the test tube and few pieces of zinc granules to it.
- Pass the gas being evolved through the soap solution with the help of the delivery tube..
- Bring a burning candle close to the gas filled bubble on the soap solution.
Reaction of Zinc granules with dilute Sulphuric acid |
OBSERVATION:-
When zinc granules are added
to the acid brisk effervescence are observed in the test tube due to the
evolution of hydrogen gas. As the gas is passed through the delivery tube into
the soap solution, bubble are seen rising over the soap solution. When a burning
candle is brought close to the gas filled bubble, it burst out with a pop sound
indicating the presence of hydrogen gas.
CONCLUSION:-
When an active metal like zinc react with an acid it displaces the
hydrogen gas and forms a salt of the acid.

+ HYDROGEN
Zn + H2SO4 à ZnSO4 + H2
